Are you looking to place a wager on professional Snooker matches and tournaments? Perhaps you’ve seen live Snooker on the television, or have followed the game your whole life and recently thought about placing a stake on results. This guide should help newcomers and experienced fans alike come to terms with the options available when betting on Snooker.
Snooker is a table game that dates back to the mid-1800s and involves 2 players competing to pot variously coloured balls into 1 of the 6 pockets to score points. Each game of Snooker is called a frame with the match ending once a player has won a certain number of frames. Point leads are scored from potting balls with higher scores available for different coloured balls, they are also gained from opponent penalties.
Players use a ‘Cue’ to hit the white ball into other balls on the table in the hope of potting and advancing through the balls. A player must pot a red ball before attempting 1 of the 6 different coloured balls and then another in between each ball without missing. When a ball is not potted the opposing player has their go starting with a red ball and so on each hoping to collect more points than the other. Penalties in Snooker include potting the white ball, failing to hit a coloured ball or potting 2 balls in a single shot (apart from 2 reds).
When a coloured ball is potted it is returned to its initial place until all of the red balls are potted. If a player can do this they then must pot each of the coloured balls in order of value, these are:
- Red – 1 Point.
- Yellow – 2 Points.
- Green – 3 Points.
- Brown – 4 Points.
- Blue – 5 Points.
- Pink – 6 Points
- Black – 7 Points.
When it comes to betting on Snooker the opportunities are plenty, there are multiple matches and competitions taking place across the world all year round. The most prestigious Big Three events include the World Championship, UK Championship and Invitational Masters and involve the biggest names in world Snooker.
The popular Snooker betting types include the Outright winner, that is who will win a match or competition. Alternative outright Snooker bets include ‘Highest break’, ‘Winning quarter’ and ‘To reach the final’ though the outright winner is the safest option for newcomers to Snooker betting. You can also make use of Snooker match betting options including an individual match winner or an accumulator of match winners. There are also handicap Snooker betting options including the winning margin, for example, betting on a player to win a match with a -2.5 margin would require them to win by at least 3 frames.
