Darts has grown in popularity in recent years, with several televised tournaments and competitions becoming increasingly well-known worldwide. You may not be able to watch, play, or even comprehend Darts, and we urge that you learn more about the sport before betting on it; but, if you already know anything about the sport, keep reading to learn more about PDC Darts. Many darts teams, especially local and smaller teams, will participate in an interlocking tournament with just one winner. On a bigger scale, competitions like the PDC World Darts Championship allow the world’s best darts players to show off their skills to the rest of the world.

History of the PDC Championships

The PDC Industry Championship began with its first series in 1994, following an incident known as ‘the split’ in the darts world. A conflict between some of the sport’s best players and the sport’s former regulating organisation, the British Darts Organisation (the BDO), resulted in the separation. The World Darts Council was founded after these professional players broke away from the organisation. The PDC Worlds had its debut season, with all of the world’s greatest players fighting for the crown and the cash prize fund.

Who Won The World Darts Championship?

Players like Phil Taylor (14 victories), Michael Van Gerwen (3 wins), and the most recent champion, Gerwyn Price, will be among the favourites to win the event again this year. In previous years of the tournament, the prize amount has climbed from £16,000 in 1994 to a stunning £500,000. The competition is now sponsored by William Hill.

Where Are the World Darts Championship Held?

The first several seasons, from 1994 to 2007, were held in the Circus Tavern in Purfleet, Essex, until the 2008 season, when the PDC World was relocated to the Alexandra Palace in London. The event is contested in a Sets format, with each participant steadily progressing until the tournament’s champion is determined at the conclusion.

How This Darts Season is Going

Outside of the PDC Championships, there are additional darts competitions throughout the year. Two of these tournaments are crucial in determining who is in contention to contend for the PDC crown. The first of these contests is the Premier League, which Jonny Clayton most recently won, and the Grand Slam, which Gerwyn Price won. These two are in decent contention to continue their winning streaks with the upcoming PDC World Darts Championship, but as with any sporting competition, there could definitely be some upsets.

For the upcoming PDC Worlds, the same name comes to mind when looking at current form, and that name is Gerwyn Price. He may be on his way to winning back-to-back PDCs, as well as a Grand Slam in the meantime. Glen Durrant and Rob Cross, who both had poor seasons in the Premier League, are two players that are currently out of form.

Build-Up To The PDC Worlds

The competition is contested in sets, with a total of 96 players. 32 of these participants are among the best in the world, and they are guaranteed a spot in the competition’s second round. Tournament 1 has 32 worldwide players and 32 other Pro Tour participants who will engage in a 64-team elimination round. Looking at the build-up to the PDC World Darts Championships, it’s clear that there are some clear favourites for this event, as well as those players who have the potential to be a wonderful underdog tale if they can keep their form going during their matches.

When are the PDC World Championships?

The PDC World Darts Championship 2022 will be held from the 15th of December 2021 to the 3rd of January 2022 this year. For whoever wins the competition, this will make a fantastic Christmas/New Year’s present!

Betting on the PDC Worlds

When it comes to betting on any sport, deciding which bets to place and who your best alternatives are for risking your money may be pretty complex. Because there aren’t as many alternatives in darts, gambling on the game becomes a little more straightforward overall. There is enough variety to make it fun, but not so much that it becomes overwhelming, and you can quickly select the bets you wish to place.

In Darts you can bet on options such as outright winners, Place bets (saying someone will reach the final or come third etc), total number of 180s in the tournament and a few others that can all give you a decent chance of choosing that winning bet. You can find fully explained Darts Betting Tips here on The Rockies which will give you more information about the different types of bets and how to place them on the PDC Worlds.

Our Predictions

We examined the competition and its competitors and believe we have determined who we believe will do well this year. The majority of these names are likely to come as no surprise, given they appear to win every competition they enter.

Price, Wright, and Clayton, all PDC veterans, are coming in as our Place bets. Gerwyn Price is in fantastic form, having just won the Grand Slam after also winning the PDC last year, and he will be hoping to continue his winning ways this year. Wright is one of those athletes who keeps coming back for more, and he always looks terrific when he does. We are decently confident that Gerwyn Price could win this competition and keep the title to his name, but the main issue that could arise for him is the fact that he will be in front of an audience which he avoided during his winning competition last year due to Covid restrictions.

Summary

We are looking forward to this year’s PDC Darts, and it appears like it will be another thrilling tournament of Darts games, with Gerwyn Price either keeping his title or having to hand it over to someone else if someone else wins between the beginning of January and the completion of the competition.

Always gamble sensibly and never put more money on the table than you can afford to lose. Gambling should be enjoyable.
