The US Masters is one of the four golf majors, the most prestigious tournaments in professional golf. Other competitions in the majors are PGA Championship, US Open and the Open Championship.

The Masters was established in 1934 and has taken place at the Augusta Golf Club in Georgia.

This year the Masters is starting April 7th, this doesn’t give us long to prepare for the event, get clued up on the competition this year and the golf betting system as a whole.

The Masters in recent years

A golfer has not won the Masters 2 consecutive years since Tiger Woods did in 2001 and 2002, he has now won the tournament 5 times.

The winner last year was Hideki Matsuyama, the first Japanese golfer to win a major gold championship and currently ranked 12th in the world.

In 2020 Dustin Johnson won the sought after green jacket against Im Sung-Jae and Cameron Smith by 5 strokes.

The year before Tiger Woods got his 5th Masters win against 3 fellow Americans Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka and Xander Schauffele. This was the first year that the winner’s share was increased from $1.98 million to $2.07, very nice Tiger.

Betting on the Masters

There are lots of bet markets available for golf events, the usual Outright winner is an option for both the competition as a whole or for each hole.

If you think a golfer will stand out on the first day of play then the First Round Leader bet lets you back your player.

Bets can be placed on the top 5, 10 or even 20 positions in a competition giving a greater winning opportunity with worse odds.

Back a nationality, if you think the winner will be American, Japanese or Chilean then place a stake on it, odds relate to the number and ranking of players from that country.

The US Masters tips

The Masters betting tips we have opted for are not guaranteed, although if you are going to place a bet and are unsure what to stake then these could help.

  • The current favourite to win is Jon Rahm, the Spanish professional is currently ranked number 1 in the world. Backing an old favourite like tiger Woods could lead to a greater return however it isn’t looking likely.
  • Each Way bets are available giving for more chance of receiving a payout, better safe than sorry.
  • The hole in 1 bet could be useful here, the average Par for holes at Augusta is 4 so a lucky swing could lead to great payouts.
  • This course has been used for years, to get an idea of how players will perform look into past Masters events and how others have fared.
